Hi there,
As an Asian Canadian, I’m excited to celebrate Asian Heritage Month here in Vancouver. This month-long celebration is a time to recognize and honour the rich and diverse cultures, traditions, and histories of Asian Canadians.
One of the things that make Vancouver such a great city is its vibrant Asian community. From delicious food to stunning cultural festivals, there are so many ways to celebrate Asian Heritage Month. Here are just a few:
Explore Chinatown: Vancouver’s Chinatown is one of the oldest and largest in North America. Take a stroll down the colourful streets, try some traditional dim sum, and visit the Chinese Cultural Centre to learn more about Chinese Canadian history.
Attend the Richmond Night Market: The Richmond Night Market is a must-visit during the summer months. With over 100 food vendors serving up Asian cuisine, you won’t leave hungry. There are also plenty of games, entertainment, and shopping to keep you busy.
Visit the Nitobe Memorial Garden: Located on the UBC campus, the Nitobe Memorial Garden is a traditional Japanese garden that honours Dr. Inazo Nitobe, a Japanese diplomat and philosopher. Take a peaceful stroll through the gardens and enjoy the stunning views of the North Shore Mountains.
Learn about Sikh Heritage: The Sikh community has played a significant role in Vancouver’s history. Visit the Ross Street Gurdwara in South Vancouver, one of the largest Sikh temples in North America, to learn more about the Sikh faith and culture.
Check out the Asian Film Festival: The Vancouver Asian Film Festival is a celebration of Asian cinema and filmmakers. Watch thought-provoking films and documentaries, and attend Q&A sessions with the filmmakers.
